Tennis Elbow, Also known as Lateral Epicondylitis is a painful condition in which someone might seek pain management resources. If you think you may have tennis elbow and are interested in some pain management techniques call our office at 330-491-0381 or you can learn more about what we have to offer at our website www.yourartdoc.com

Tennis Elbow is a painful condition that is caused by repetitive overloaded stress to the tendons that connect from the wrist to the elbow. Oftentimes doing the same wrist and arm motion can cause this intense pain. Typically you will feel pain directly on the attachment of the bone but you can also experience pain on the forearm or in the wrist. An example of this motion is exactly in the name itself, tennis. Using that wrist motion where you’re flexing and extending as well as pronating and supinating can cause those tendons to become inflamed and “angry” very quickly.

Tennis elbow can be treated with many different pain management techniques. ART is a great modality as it helps to relieve the overused muscles and ensure that they are all moving and gliding for proper motion and reducing friction on the attachment sites. You may also see us use a tool called Graston which helps to break up adhesions in the tissue and encourage good blood flow to promote healing. A third of many options might be dry needling in which the needles are placed directly into a trigger point allowing the muscle to relax and rest from the overuse that has been done.

All these treatments are to help reduce inflammation in the tissue, break up adhesions and scar tissue, increase blood flow to the muscle and encourage the muscles to strengthen and be able to endure the repetitive motions you are asking of it. When pain management is successful, the next step is to strengthen the muscles and tendons to hopefully prevent the injury from occurring again. We will teach you how to treat the problem at home, allowing you to get treatment on your own in between the sessions you have with us and know how to manage your pain on your own should it happen again in hopes that you don’t need our help recovering at all. We like to send you out the door pain-free and we say no news is good news!
